Hiring Strategies

Tips for Hiring the Right Person

One of the difficulties we have in our profession is that there is not a waiting list of electrologists seeking employment. If you are a professional who needs another electrologist to assist you in your practice, we hope the following laundry list of strategies will be of help. This list will let you choose what is important for you to consider when hiring someone, and perhaps you will learn some new strategies that you didn't think about.

  • What type of education do they have?
  • If a license is required, is it current?
  • Is the electrologist a Certified Professional Electrologist (CPE)?
  • How are their skills and technique?
  • Do they meet your standards in their approach to people in person or on the telephone?
  • What modality do they use and will it be compatible in your office?
  • Are they willing to learn?
  • Is their personality something you could live with?
  • Are they friendly?
  • Are they polite?
  • Is their outward appearance acceptable according to your standards?
  • Is this someone you would let work on yourself?
  • Would you be willing to advertise more if you employed them?
  • Will client confidentiality be maintained?

Personality is foremost, you can train someone but you can't give them a new personality. There is no one person who is going to fit in all the categories listed above, so you will have to choose what you will accept and what you won't. Take a look at their work experience, formal education, and technique. Have you thought about having the prospective employee give you a treatment? That will give you a good sense of their skills and if this is really someone you would want working on your clients.
